After being knocked out on the pitch during a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Tranmere Rovers, Tom Bender has been released from hospital and is now recovering at home.

It was feared that the on-loan defender had suffered a serious injury or even a broken neck in the accident which happened in the 39^th minute when he collided with goalie Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere’s Lucas Akins.

Bender was knocked unconscious and was treated on the pitch with a drip and oxygen for half an hour before an ambulance arrived. He was then taken for a brain scan and the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he received the all-clear but was kept in hospital for few days for observation.

The match was called off following the incident, and has been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday 12 October. Bender will not be playing as he is current back at his parent club Colchester for a few weeks while he recovers.
